I want to name a daughter for someone named "Shaina" but we want to use a Hebrew name. I have heard of people using the name Nava but as far as I can tell this name means "fitting" or "lovely" but not necessarily "beautiful."

Do any Israeli mothers the literal meaning of Nava? Is it used as beautiful (we don't like the name Yaffa)?

Ditto on Yafit. My cousin is Yafit, named for a Shaindel (exact translation, as Yafit is "little Yafa" and Shaindel is "little Shaina").

Naava is beautiful.
Kalla na'ahh, kalla ya'aa, kalla na'ah vachasuda. The shoresh of N.A.H = beautiful. Good to look at. Pleasing to the eye.

Thanks for the answers!

So Naava and Nava are different then? Or are they a variation of the same name?

Naava is probably more correct gramatically.

Same name. It's spelled nun alef vav hei.
Under the alef is a chataf patach - it would've been a shva but you can't have a shva under an alef, so it becomes a chataf patach, which is pronounced like an alef but treated as a shva.
The word appears in the passuk "shechorah ani venaavah - I am black but beautiful."
