CRANBERRY APPLE KUGEL
Crust/Crumble:
1 C flour
1 C oatmeal
¾ C brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 stick margarine

Mix together. Use half to press down on bottom of the pan to form a crust. Save half.
Filling:
Peel and slice 4 apples, any type.
1 can wholeberry cranberry sauce.
Layer apples in pan. Pour sauce on top – don’t mix.
Take the reserved crust/topping and crumble it coarsely on top.
Bake at 350 until sizzling.

When you say 1 C oatmeal - is it the quaker oats?
Also it sounds more like a cake than a kugel (side dish) is that so? no eggs? how does it stick together?

I just made this last week. yes, it is quaker oats, loose oats..
it is a side dish, when it bakes, it melds together, and dunno, it just is a kugel..it is really delicious!!

I make this all the time. It's a hit! I found it tastes great when using the whole oats (not instant cook), and using cortland apples (or mac's). Also, it can be made with only 1/2 c. brown sugar and less than 1/2 c. oil (instead of the margarine). It's very sweet.

The original kosher by design has a wonderful kugel, made in springform pan with chopped apples.

My sister made this for me a few weeks ago - from Quick and Kosher - and it was yummy!

Filling:
1 21 oz can apple pie filling
2 c fresh or frozen cranberries (she used 1 cup frozen)

Topping:
4 T light brown sugar
4 T white sugar
1 cup flour
1 stick margarine

Combine filling ingredients and pour into 9" round greased pan. Combine topping ingredients until crumbly and sprinkle over apple/cranberry mixture. Bake @ 375 for 45 minutes.
