We are flying to Canada for Sukkos and my ils are getting a car seat for us from a gemach. Our dd will be only 11 months, but she is tall (last checkup about a month and a half ago she measured 29"). I'm not sure about her weight but she may be 19 or close to 20 lb by that time, if not sooner. What kind of car seat should they try to get so that she stays safe?
TIA!

You'll need a backwards-facing carseat until your child is one year old AND at least 20 lbs. The Graco Snugride is one popular and well-rated one.

She will be too big for a snugride. I think the new graco ones go to 32", but the gemach might not have any.
You need a convertible seat, and you need to install it rear facing. Also make sure it's not expired (the date is stamped on the seat).

now I'm confused. I just measured her to see where shes at (standing, at dr. office she was lying down) and shes only 27". how can there be a 2" difference?! I dont think she shrunk.

It's hard to measure a baby accurately since they squirm. I would get a convertible carseat and have it installed RF. I would avoid a carrier type; depending on torso height, she'll be too big for most, and the one she would fit into (snugride 32/safeseat) is likely not available and even if it is, is too heavy to carry with her at this point, so it's not worth it. Might as well get one that stays in the car that you know will fit her
