I live in New York and I was wondering what's fair pay for a babysitter, 6 hours a day, in your home. It will be for 2 children, a 15 month old and a baby. Is $10/hr reasonable? I already have someone who's phenomenal, I just want to know how much I should offer her.

It depends where you live in New York. If you live in Manhatten that might be too little but it sounds right for Brooklyn. Your best bet is to call people in your neighboorhood who have babysitters and ask them what the going rate is. If one says 12 and the other 10 then you have the right ballpark. But if they say 10 and 14 you might be on the lower end. You always want to pay a good babysitter the right price because you want to ensure they will stay with you and not feel resentful.

I think people in my neighborhood (flatbush) pay $8...but I could be wrong... but you do have 2 babies, so maybe $10 is acceptable>
