How long is a tick "good" for? :)

They do not test the tick to see what diseases they have. They only identify the tick and how long it was attached by the amount of engorgement. (I deal with the health dept on this topic every summer working in the mountains and this is a common misconception that they are testing the tick to see if it is diseased)
