I have a holiday party to attend for work on the second night of chanukah. I would like to bring sufganiyot to add some ethnic flavor to a gathering of mostly xmas celebrators.

what bakery has the best tasting and biggest variety of sufganiyot? I wasn't thrilled with the ones dh bought last year.

I love Weiss' Bakery on 13th Avenue in Boro Park. Their donut dough is fabulous and their fillings are equally delicious!!

Definitely Weiss's. they are all great. The Chanukah I recently spent in the US, they were what got me through!

According to DH & I, are favorite is from a bakery across from Dr. Kliott's old office (by 16th & 54th) diagonally across. I think it's called Gross, but not sure.
Weiss' came in second.

uh oh, another contender.

now I have an excuse for a tasting spree before I settle on a place to buy from.

2 questions:

what day do you think the bakeries will start selling sufganiyot? and will they still be yummy if I buy friday for saturday night? or do you think the bakery will be open saturday night as well?

Do NOT buy them for the next day!!! They are delicious fresh for a few hours, but by the next morning they become oil-logged rocks!! I know, I've tried it!

OK, now this thread has inspired a craving! Does anyone know if these places have sufganiyot now? (As in this time of year). If they were open at this hour, DH would be out getting them! Very Happy lol I ask b/c it'll be a little schleppy to get there, but will make the trip as there aren't any good bakeries in my current community....TIA

I never had doughnuts from weiss. but now that everyone is talkin, I just might have to. I would have said doughnut man on 13 and 47 is the best, cuz I think thats where we usually go. they have doughnuts all year, and they have a huge selection of flavors.

yocheved, they are definitely a good choice for cravings!!

Weiss's has awesome donughts and if you pick up a copy of Binah Magazine this week there is this amazing coupon book and one of the coupons is for a free donut at Weiss's with no purchase necessary! So go ahead and taste one in advance of your party
