As for garnish,
Fried onion (ok, not healthy, but the one straight from the pack... or you can fry your own).
Browned vermicelli (toast till it's nicely browned, then add to the rice for the last 7-8min of cooking)
Fried garlic slices
Toasted pine nuts, toasted sliced almonds,
Dried cranberries, raisins, chopped apricots
Chopped dill and frozen peas
Sauteed mushroom pieces
You can make quick fried rice with sweetcorn, frozen peas, and scrambled egg broken into pieces.
I also make carrot rice--cook rice with grate carrots and a bit of parve soup powder

cinnamon, I'm surprised at you. Sugar-and-cinnamon is a classic rice topping. If you want to get artsy, sprinkle it on in a crisscross pattern or use a doily to form a design.

Smile I'v never heard of cinnamon as a rice topping... I don't really like sweet rice.
I like the mushroom idea and I think I will saute it with onions.

thanks!

I never heard of a topping for rice, either, but I do have a rice cooker cookbook that I like a lot,and has variations.

One way I make it is to saute onions, mushrooms, and celery. Very small pieces. During the last 5-10 minutes, you can add some craisins. Not too many. It tastes great and looks beautiful.

Another really easy way to make unbelievable rice is to cook it in chicken soup instead of water. I will sometimes take some of the vegetables from the soup and mash/mix it into the raw rice mixture. When it cooks up there are bits of vegetable in it and it tastes really good.

Saute onions then add any or all of these vegetables cut up, - broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms, snowpeas, celery. (Can add fried egg sliced finely).
Add soy sauce!
My family enjoy this a lot!
