I need some type of storage on top of my washing machine and dryer.
I have the option of either shelves or cabinets (basically shelves with doors)
Which would you recommend?
What are the pros and cons of each?

I have shelves and like it very much. It's easy to reach one detergent after the other and it all looks nice and neat.

I personally prefer things with doors so u can not see mess

I second that. Cabinets also keep their contents cleaner than open shelves. However, shelves are somewhat more versatile in that they allow you to store items that are wider than the shelves are deep. With cabinet doors the items must be narrow enough to let the doors close. Also, how good are you and your family about closing cabinet doors? if you're the type to leave them ajar, stick to shelves.

I have shelves but as drumjj said cabinets give a cleaner look

If the washing machine is in a laundry room, I'd go with the shelves.
If it's in an open area, I would go with the cabinets.
