My dd, 12, is complaining of a loose bladder. Meaning she has no sensation but suddenly feels full of urine and needs to change. Anybody ever heard of this? Any advice?

As you probably know, there are many reasons for what you call a loose bladder. Some are physical - like many of us who have had a few kids know. However, the nervous system controls the bladder and sometimes the sympathetic nervous system (see wikipedia) gets its signals messed up. The type of doctor that treats this problem is called a urogynecologist. There are medications, but they have side effects. There is also a physical therapy specialty for this. Basically, they work on relaxation and calming and muscle exercises. However, since my daughter has gone through this, the PT is very invasive of your privacy, so she took what she could from a few sessions of PT and manages the rest herself. She has a calming CD that she listens to and she does some of the exercises, but in general, she makes sure to plan her bathroom trips so she doesn't have a leak. This has been quite successful. She's in college now and this started when she was a senior in HS. We're hoping that when the stress subsides, this will too.
