It might help to post your location!
If you live near a bookstore (Barnes & Noble style) or electronics store, it's worth asking them if they have boxes. Often they just throw them out.

Try cragislist. Wine and liquor stores have very sturdy boxes, and supermarkets or fruit and vegetable stores are worth a try.
