yeah. my husband is a shochet too, and we were thinking of moving there.
Per the information we got, there's no reason not to do it (depending obviously on your situation)
rent is about $500 - $700 month - for a 3 bdrm house
there is a pretty good girls school there, although I'm not sure if the boys one is good (didn't look into it - only have girls)
You can get the same kosher food you would get anywhere else, though it may be a bit more expensive. (Just buy the paper goods, and ketchup, et.... at Walmart or s/t like it)
It seems that there's actually a really nice community there, and the people we've spoken to are really happy.
YOU MUST DRIVE though - because it's out of town.
(Don't know where your coming from..)
Anything else I can help with? Just pm me.
(Have lots more info - let me know what you're looking for...

I drove through once and took a tour of the plant.
Its a really nice quaint town. There is barely anything around for miles so if you like big city life it is not for you.

I lived there for a year before I got married.
The community there is EXCEPTIONAL!!!!!!
Since people usually don;t have family members, all neighbors and friends become like family.
But it's really a tiny little village.
As someone else said, you MUST drive to keep your sanity. Everyone does, there, even the most israeli chasidish...
The closest mall is1.5 - 2 hours drive. You have a walmart 20 min away.
I don't know what the atmosphere is like now, with all the new things that happened there, but it's a really cute community to live in. Oh, and the winter is loong and coooold!!!!
You can also pm me with more specific questions if you want, I will be glad to help if I can...

Dd and I will be in Postville (where DH is working), and I'm wondering if any mothers out there want to meet up. We'll be staying at the Pines Hotel, so any help with meals would be greatly appreciated!
PM me if you don't want the general board to know where you live.
