we did a video for dad's bday. my brother interviewed all of his chavrusas, friends, some wackos on the street LOL & they all said things to dad- came out beautiful - more than just a present (we got one too). at the end all the grandkids said s/t too. use digital camera & then there's a program on windows xp where u can add shtick & music....
plus, they probably don't want a/t cuz they're moving, no?

Either wait till they've made aliyah and then send them something, or give them s/t consumable that they can use up now b4 they go--say, a stack of ready-to-eat meals, either the self-heating kind or the kind you keep in the freezer. Or make them a few "Shabbosim-on-the-go": prepare and freeze in portions kugel, soup, chicken, dessert, so they don't have to make shabbos in the hectic weeks before they leave.

Or provide them with some kind of service such as housecleaning or professional packing to help with their aliyah prep.

Or, if they have not yet bought all their 220V appliances, ask them what they want and buy it for them.

whatever you do, do not, repeat DO NOT buy them a chachke. every ounce you give them is an ounce that they will have to wrap, pack, pay for $hipping, unpack, and, if it hasn't broken, find a space for in their new home--and an ounce of something useful and necessary that they will have to leave behind.
