Like chaylizi, my kids have all been really advanced in the speech department but quite behind in the motor skills area. My oldest said her first words at 8 mo but was way behind in running, climbing stairs, etc. That same oldest dd has finally (at age 6) caught up to her peers in motor skills. Some kids just focus on one area of development to the temporary exclusion of another. So you may want to get your ds evaluated eventually, not because there really appears to be any problems, just to relieve yourself with the assurances of a professional that he's doing ok. Also, have you tried sign language? I know many people for whom this has really worked, and it can really help relieve any frustration your child may feel at his inability to communicate fully.
