compote! I make a few varieties, they're all delicious.

apple sauce with raisins and cinnamon,
or applesauce with pears and/or canned cherries, or plums, or frozen strawberries.
The longer you cook it, the sweeter it gets, and you serve chilled, it's the best. Simple!

baked apples.

apple crumble. Buy canned apples from tesco. or cut up fresh ones.

throw into food processor 1 cup flour 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup margerine. (you can sub oil if you want)

sprinkle cinnamon over apples and then crumble topping. bake for 30 minutes or until brown.

serve warm (leave on blech) with vanilla ice cream.

Not sure if these are accessible or not but cranberry fool: whip up one cup of whip, add one teaspoon lemon juice and a can of cranberry sauce (or the equivalent homemade). Refrigerate or freeze.

This recipe is fabulous:

How about some kind of cake? Cakes are usually made with pretty basic ingredients.

The lemon cake shopaholic posted is great:

Can you get puff pastry? (I know it might be a stretch....)

If so,

Pear/Apple Tart

Cut a piece of puff pastry as big as you want the tart
Dust w/ cinnamon and sugar and ground almonds if you have (I omitted them)
peel and cut up apples and/or pears very thinly. spread out artistically (or not) over puff pastry
brush an egg wash (just an egg, beaten) over the entire thing
dust again w/ cinn/sugar if you want

bake for about 25 min at 350 (about 175 C)

you could also do this with your own homemade crust using margarine/oil/flour/sugar etc. check out allrecipes.com for an easy pie/tart crust recipe
