The way I see it, the parents are "gifted" and then the kids are "gifted" more or less.
Some are geniuses, some are almost geniuses.
In my time, we were tested, and I was always in the "smartest" class.
That was so wrong, no wonder they don't do it anymore.
Everyone knew if they were smart, almost smart, mediocre, almost dumb, or really dumb.
There were five classes divided just so...
The brains need to be balanced with social achievement, and common sense, which many geniuses lack.
Geniuses have plenty of faults, even if they happen to be called "gifted". It may be a gift, but depends when and to whom.... Everything in life is a gift, if we know how to appreciate it and make the best of it....

It often runs in families, it's true.

In French, there is a large part of "gifted" who aren't gifted enough to be "genius".
The precise limit is a machlokes, but google tells me that:
140+ is Genius (some say 160, I think it was 160 in my times)
120-140 Highly superior intelligence
110-119 Superior intelligence
90-109 Normal/Average intelligence
Distribution
50% in between 90 et 110
70% IB 85 et 115
95% IB 70 et 130
99.5% IB 60 et 140
Another one:
115-124 - Above average (University student level)
125-134 - Gifted (Prestigious school level)
135-144 - Very gifted
145-154 - Genius (Professor level)
155-160 - Genius "++" (Nobel prize level)
If we consider 125+ gifted, MANY Jewish children qualify. But it's definitely not enough to be a weirdo or rejected.
