I am currently applying my children for CHP and Americhoice for my husband and I (different insurances due to different doctors) We are eligible for Americhoice.
I am looking at the CHP application and it shows an option for Free insurance which I am eligible for. However, does anybody know if this plan will still be provided through Empire? My children's doctor only take Child Health Plus through Empire, not through medicaid so I do not want to end up with medicaid. I'd rather pay $9 a month if it is guaranteed through Empire, but then that income wouldn't be eligible for Americhoice anymore (which I need for my doctor). Does anyone have experience with this?

make sure that you're overincome for medicaid. if you're lligible for medicaid, they will probably give you Empire-Medicaid. I'm not really sure the difference, but when my daughter was born, there was a mess up and she ended up on HIP medicaid (which was sometimes annoying). If you're overincome for medicaid, then probably you'll just have empire chp. I'm not really sure, though. you can call cojo or yeled vyalda or nachas healthnet - I believe they help with applications.
good luck!!

I hate bashing jewish agencies but please do not call Nachas healthnet. My dh and I did our insurance through them and they messed up our paperwork and I ended up four months pregnant without insurance because they submitted the paperwork late. They also never told me about PCAP so until my dh looked online we thought we would have to pay for doctor visits until the insurance came through!

Well lets be clear; there is chp for kids and fhp for adults, you have to look acoording to the income if you are elegible to get it for free or pay something. now for chp you can have choices of many companies like ameri choice, empire, fidelis. or what ever else is out there, the same goes with fhp you can choose which one you want, you can even do certin kids with lets say ameri choice and the other kids with fidelis, all will still be under chp. so now the same goes for the adults in family, its your choice which company to apply for. all falling under fhp, like you say if you dont qualify for medicaid they wont givve it to you.good luck...

My question is, can I have Americhoice and my children have CHP thru Empire at the same time? Is the income amount the same for both plans?

it's much easier to be eligible (income-wise) for CHP than FHP.
mindy, I think empire is only available for the kids.
