I recently took this book out of our public library. It is loosely based on the true story of a Union soldier who is welcomed into a confederate home for a sedar days after the civil war ended. It is told from the viewpoint of the young son of the confederate family, but is obviously from the political viewpoint of the real life Union soldier.
While certain aspects are halachically inaccurate, I found it overall to be a wonderful story. It teaches that Jews, no matter how far apart their viewpoints, can still find a place in each others homes.
I read it to my 6 year old. Its probably good for kids 4-8.
I found it so moving, I want to read it at our sedar.

I really like that book! I don't remember it being halachically problematic but that would surprise me.
It's a great book to read to kids.

the boy was eating matzah b4 the sedar (under bar mitzvah, so how big of a deal?) and sister was eating matzah by the 4 questions. Same silverware was used as rest of teh year.
all of it is minor details...doesnt distract from the book

Maybe the boy has been tantrumming the whole day (perphaps the past few days) and whining that he wants matza... almost causing stressed out mommy a nervous breakdown.. as she kept telling him all day "at the seder", so when the seder finally started he could finally have the matza
