I was never in your situation... it must have been very embarrassing. the harder a mitzvah the more reward.

I think I would get up and talk go to the water (when he is not next to the table) and tell him something to this affect. "I really appreciate you holding a table for us for over and hour. I am so sorry this elderly women is being rude to you... but as you can see she is elderly and she doesn't mean to hurt you personally... thanks for understanding" and maybe give him a nicer tip.

If she was really elderly (and I have no idea how old you are--you may consider 50 to be elderly) then she may have mild Alzheimer's disease or other age-related dementia which changes people's personalities, usually for the worse. Do you know her relatives? If so, you should let them know that their mother is behaving hostile and erratic and they may want to have her checked out.

I think a 90 y o person can get away with being a little rude.

after all, they can't wait forever for their food Wink

I recetly visited my aunt in a nursing home ! she is in her 80-s
she was in good spirtits - and was very nice and patient to all her nurses
even thu she was in extreme pain form cancer-
I have met many women who were in their 90-s

they were strutting aroung the nursing home with big smiles !

they were all very friendly =some of them had walkers
alot of them were very well dressed !
