My son was 13 just 4 months ago, and he is now about 6ft tall. I'm really nervous that this is abnormal. I know that for a boy it is better to be tall then short, but when is it considered a problem? I'm nervous that he will be 7ft tall G-d forbid. He did start growing some body hair and his voice got deeper, but he doesn't have much of a mustache or any facial hair.
Does anyone have any experience with this.
Thank you

It's perfectly normal. He probably won't be growing more than a few more inches.
One of my brothers hit 6 ft. right after his bar mitzva. He's nowhere near 7 ft. now.

Ask his Dr. My son had a hip xray. Based on the xray and his family history the Dr. was able to make a prediction on his height. His father was 6'6". I did not go to the Dr who is a specialist for this reason.

How old is your brother now, and how tall is he? When I took him to the doctor he told me that most boys die to be so tall but my son is so self conscience because he towers over his whole class.

How tall was your son at 13?
My husband is 5"11 and I'm 5"7 so we're really not exceptional tall, and we both did not grow till we were older. 13 is a bit young. I hope he stops growing, but I guess the only way to know is to take an x-ray and if it shows there's still alot of growth, what are my options?

My brother is all grown up now. He stopped growing at about 6"1-6"2.
It sounds like your son is getting his growth spurt now, after that he'll probably stop growing (or grow much slower).

I'm really hoping. he was always considered tall for his age, but in the last six months he grew about 5 inches.

I would not do a thing. You can ask the Dr. My husband had to always duck. He was stared at. He had to fly first class because he could not sit in regular seats. OTOH, it gave him instant authority. I would be afraid to do anything. I might do growth hormones if my son were short. My husband loved his height.
BTW, my son is predicted to be 6'3". I will do anything.

tnx squichy for calming me down. I am so the nervous type. I guess I will make an appointment with the doctor, but it doesn't look like anything can be done. I'm just anxious.

My 14 year old son is like 4 feet tall. Everone is different. I know 13-14 year old girls who are 6 feet tall. No point in making a big deal about nature.

Some boys hit their growth spurt sooner rather than later and then just grow only a little bit more and at a much slower rate. Also, Idk if it was the op or a different poster who posted heights as being 5'7 and 5'11 respectively. I think that is definitely on the taller end even thought hat poster didn't seem to think so. (most women I know are shorter than 5'7, although maybe I just have short friends and relatives;) )

Can't go wrong asking your dr.
I'm following this thread because I have a son who's almost 12 and a half and is about five six.

My husband was over 6 feet by 13. He and his father went to buy suits for his bar mitzvah and his was one size bigger than his dad's. He had to get new shoes literally every couple of weeks because his feet grew so quickly. He maxed out at 6'4" when he was 14/15. He is still wearing his suits from 9/10th grade.
I wouldn't be too concerned, unless perhaps everyone in your family is really short and this could be considered some sort of abnormality. Also, I'm glad it is your son and not your daughter. I've known girls to be 6' at 13.

My husband looked on it as a positive. The instant respect thing is a biggie. He also got to meet basketball stars when he shipped at the Big and Tall Men's Store.

My old brother (now about 6 feet) was always one of the tall ones in the class, but slowed down after his Bar Mitzvah....my younger brother was Mr shorty, and was one of these little Bar Mitzva boys with a hat that looked like it shouldn't be on his head, he looked like he was no more than 10.....well, he continued to grow thru his teen years and surpassed his older brother - he is actually slightly taller!

my husband was tall at his bar mitzvah and stopped growing around 15. he is quite tall now, but not too tall. OP, dont worry- your son will be tall IY"H, but probably nothing crazy- my random uneducated guess is like 6"4?

I want to update all of you, now that I just came back from the doc with my son.
He was not concerned and after examing him, he said my son is almost totally developed and will probably not grow that much more.
I want to thank all of you and especially imamother for giving all of us the oppurtunity to express our concerns and questions in such a way. This website is a real BROCHA!!!!!
