there are tons of ideas for little girls costumes! Its just hard to pick one! Go to a costume website for ideas.
Narrow it down to a few and let your daughter choose.

When dd was that age, she generally selected a character from a favorite book or book series. She would typically find something in her closet that reminded her of a character, and accessorize in a way that made it clear what the costume was supposed to be.

Queen Esther is a good fall-back choice - it's easy to purchase/make a royal robe and crown! Add lots of necklaces, and she's good to go.

My second-grader (8 yr old) is going as a gypsy/fortune teller.
making use of lots of those belly-dancing jangly scarves (tying one around head, a few around a colorful gypsy skirt). Blowsy type of blouse (peasant). Boots.
lots and lots of beads/jewelry/jangly bracelets. Bought her a pair of clip-on earrings and I'll make up her face.
you can round it off with a crystal ball, but my dd isn't too interested in carrying one around.

we are doing a medieval theme in my family (difference social classes of the time for the different family members.) the girls, one of whom is nearly 7, are going to represent royalty as young maidens/ princesses.

why don't you look at costume websites with her and see what she's interested in?

One Hello Kitty
One Strawberry dress
One Snow White
Last year we had a Queen Ester also, but that costume was outgrown :-)

My six and a half year old DD is going to be a fairy queen at her wedding.
She couldn't decide between fairy, queen, and bride so she's doing them all.

This is the costume I got her:

Hope it survives costume day at school

DD is going to be a parrot. She was a duck last year, and really wanted to be a panda this year but a parrot worked better. For her school parties she is a princess, but somehow on purim she just goes for animals. Dunno, I let her be her.

That is perfect!
I was just thinking, I don't know why my dd this age will be because she can't choose between princess, bride, mermaid, fairy, and more things I'm probably forgetting... Maybe I'll suggest your dd's idea.

Do you guys think she also needs a veil?
How would I incorporate one with the head piece, it's a headband with a silver crown (shown in the above link)?
I'm thinking small wings, do you think that would be ok?
