I was just talking to someone & they said their soup pot is 18 qt. I checked mine & it's only 8 qt! no wonder why I always have so little to freeze!
What size is you soup pot?

Yes, using a bit pot like that is a real commitment. As I said in chat the other night, it's a Sunday job for me, then I portion it out and freeze it.
It's too much work for a Thursday or Friday. Takes up room in the fridge, too.

I'm so glad this thread started, ladies, because I now realize that my 8-qt is not big enough, even though it was the biggest one I saw when registering for my wedding.
I always make soup and freeze for future shabboses, but I never end up with as much to freeze as I'd like, maybe enough for 2 extra shabboses.
Mom, if you're on imamother, I want a 20-quart soup pot for CHanukah!!

Batya, I got mine at Macy's, but you might get a better price at a Jewish store. Maybe you can look while you're at the Tuesday meet.
P.S. When I got mine, I got two and put one aside for Pesach!

Question for all those who freeze soup:
How does your soup stay fresh and not start tasting like a freezer?
I have a problem, my DH won't touch anything (cooked food) which was frozen...

Soup is one of the few things that actually tastes better from the freezer! I put freeze the soup in 1 qt containers (like the ones you get from the takeout places) It seals tight and the soup always tastes fresh.
Roast also freezes great. Meatballs taste great from the freezer also. the trick is, to make sure its in tuppaware type containers. Also challah has to be double wrapped in heavy foil and then in plastic, so it tastes fresh.
There are some foods that don't freeze well, like cooked chicken and potatoes. But usually if you put things away in good containers it freezes nice and you can't tell the difference between fresh and frozen.

I used to freeze a lot a lot a lot !
At some point, we got sick of it & now I make simpler but fresh food for meals.
But soup can really be frozen easily. Even if you only freeze it for a week instead of making it each week, it's a help.

I guess we don't eat that much soup... my stock pot is 8 qts and I usually only use the 2 qt pot for shabbos.
