I just saw this recipe in the Hamodia and was excited to see that it contains no margarine or white flour.

6-8 medium sized apples
1 T. lemon juice
1 C. whole wheat flour
1/2 C. bread crumbs
1/2 C. wheat germ/oatmeal
1 C. oatmeal
1/2 C. brown sugar
2 t. cinnamon
3/4 C. ground nuts (walnuts, almonds, pecans or any combination)
1/2-3/4 C. oil (as needed)

Peel apples and slice thinly. Toss with lemon juice and arrange on the botton of a 9-10 in. round pie pan. Place dry ingredients in a bowl and mix. Drizzle in a 1/2 C. oil. Toss with a fork until mixture is wet but not clumpy (if it is too dry add a bit more oil slowly until it reaches a the right consistency. If it is clumpy you added too much oil so add a bit more flour.) Spread over the apples.
Place pie plat in oven on top of a piece of foil (to catch drips). Bake @ 350 for 35-45 minutes until the top is lightly browned and crispy.

wheat germ is healthy. I use wheat germ to replace bread crumbs in most recipes and you cant tell the difference.

I know wheat germ is healthy I just don't have any in the house, because we don't sell chometz so I got rid of it before pesach.

You can substitute oatmeal for the wheat bran.

Yes but I already bought oatmeal since pesach and wheat germ I haven't!!

In any case I made this and my hubby loved it. Was really good can't wait to share it my other healthy conscious family members.

Next time I will put in the wheat germ.
