There's a 6 page thread on this site with romantic comedies, but there are just so many, I have no idea where to start. So can you all share your favorite 5 romantic comedies, even if others have mentioned them and this way we'll be able to see which are the most popular. Thanks!

I'm more of a fantasy/sci-fi fan, so I don't watch many romantic comedies, but here are a few that I think may fit:

* While You Were Sleeping (with Sandra Bullock - this is my mother's favorite movie EVER, so my sisters and I can quote sooo many lines by heart)

* Groundhog Day (does that count? There's a romantic plotline... okay, whatever. I'm just gonna plug this movie any chance I can get!)

* Enchanted (does this count, too? It's got James Marsden in his typical role as the guy who gets dumped by the protagonist for someone else by the end of the movie...)

* Pride and Prejudice, in all incarnations: BBC miniseries, Kiera Knightley version (my sister's favorite movie EVER), Bollywood version ("Bride and Prejudice" -- it's got a singing, dancing Sayid from LOST in it!)... Jane Austen CREATED the romantic comedy genre! Smile

I can't think of 5, but I loved Sense and Sensibility.

Edit: I guess that's not really a comedy. Well, I loved it anyway. embarrassed

#1 is definitely Pretty Woman- a classic!!
choosing just 4 more will be difficult, but I'll try:
The Wedding Planner
Two Weeks Notice
Maid in Manhattan
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
The Wedding Date

(I guess that's really 6 but I can't decide which one to leave out, sorry)

I have to rely on a long memory, because we don't really have a way of playing movies at our house.

Most adaptations of Jane Austen Novels are good, with some exceptions. Stay away from Mansfield Park, and Northanger Abbey, although the novels themselves are quite delightful. Most versions of Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Emma that I have seen are quite delightful. I also like Persuasion, but that one tends to be more serious, and you are looking for comedy.

There was a BBC version of Wives and Daughters, which had both comedy and "romance." (Highly recommended.)

Let's look at older movies that I enjoyed:
Roman Holiday
Desk Set (I have to mention that one, having once been a librarian.)
Sabrina (with Audrey Hepburn. I think that was mentioned here though)
Marty (slightly on the serious side, but also has some laughs.)
Shop Around the Corner
It Happened One Night (but beware, this one can get a bit racy.)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

For some reason, another movie popped into my head, that does not meet your request at all, but I remember it being very good. It isn't romantic, or funny, but I remember it being very well written and dramatic. You may like it if you are into classic films: All About Eve.
