I made a nice noodle/cheese kugel - sweet, with crushed corn flakes and cinnamon sugar on top.
I was going to make a broccoli kugel too but now I'm nervous about the yellow cheese and being thirsty...
I like the idea of lentil/bean soup but I don't know if it will keep on the plata the entire Shabbos...I don't have a crock pot.

My husband wants yopsik that is potato kugel with meat inside. I am making that for him and since I had a baby a few weeks ago they are making shabbos for us this week and are sending a milchig kugel for before the fast which I will eat.

I made a baked ziti that I'll heat up on the plata (inspired by this thread, I asked our rav about using the plata for both milk and meat and he told me I could, just to put foil down first). We'll also have parve leftovers from shabbos lunch (broccoli kugel muffins, mushroom onion quiche, quinoa, and scalloped potatoes), along with tuna salad.

I made an onion-mushroom marinara spaghetti to be served cold or room temp. Challah, gefilte fish and dips, maybe guacamole, egg salad.

And most important watermelon and gatorade.

Nutritionally speaking - before a fast:

WATER, WATER, WATER, WATER!!!! Preferably Spring Water or coconut water (has more electrolytes then Gatorade etc.)

no sugary drinks
Also the following are 'slow' burning carbs and recommended before any fast:

Brown Rice
Corn - preferably fresh sliced off the cob but if not, then canned or even frozen
Make a rice salad with corn and cut up veggies and a nice light dressing.
Serve with a protein (chicken - hot or cut-up boneless cold)

An extra cholent put up with Rice vs. Potatoes - Yum - just remember to put enough water in to cook the rice.

Grapes - very imporatant. Helps regulate Blood Sugar 'dips' while fasting.

AND ONCE AGAIN - WATER!!

I made meat lasagna (though im not sure yet how ill serve it.. u think it would be ok cold? id rather not have to leave on the hot plate in this weather...)

Also potato salad, corn salad, challah rolls with dips (techina, olive dip), and im putting out a veggie platter, just fresh cut up veggies with a dip, if anyone wants something a bit lighter to go with the heavy carbs.

Just a couple of comments - Many shuls change their schedule for this shabbos by davening mincha earlier to allow people to eat at home, so make sure that there is a s's at your shul before you depend on it.

Also for those serving pasta with sauce - isn't it a problem to put it on the plata on shabbos because it has sauce on it which would be considered a liquid? If you have a recipe that works I'd like it!
Or do you leave it on from before shabbos??

Potassium is supposed to make a fast easier and they put it in Powerade/Gatorade and bananas are full of it!

I think we will do schnitzel, baked potatoes, pasta salad, and some type of veg. then a plain cake for dessert.

Just sautéed onions and fresh mushrooms chopped. Add cooked (al dente) spaghetti or fettucini and a good quality marinara sauce like frescorti. Warm through. Serve hot or cold.
