Well I knew it would happen, yes I am going to be paid but still.

The Rabbi I worked for has basically asked me to plan his son's Bar Mitzvah and wants me to come up with a plan... any suggestions?

AHHHHHHHHHH

must be as cheap as possible.

no B"H catering company doing that... but I will have to be there for the event to make sure that the waitresses know what they are doing etc etc...and make sure that the table is set for a family style type meal..

I.E. everyone given empty plates and big plate of each type of food on the table. So centerpiece cannot be huge..

You could do balloons, attached to very small thing on the table so it doesn't take up too much space.

You can buy balloons online and rent a helium tank from a party place. Helium is quite expensive, but latex balloons are quite cheap. It can look really nice. (I wouldn't do it for a weding, but definately for a bar Mitzva)

One of my favorite centerpiece ideas is a bowl or vase with floating (lit) candles and flower petals, sitting on a mirror. Too feminine for a bar mitzvah?

Or you can alternate - some get floating candles, others get balloons.

When is the Bar-Mitzvah? What day of the week? Time of year?

If it's around Chanukah, toss a few plastic draidles on the tables. If it's ON Chanukah, make sure you have cheapo metal menorahs so people can light.
