My brother was born with 1, is 22 years old now, and B"H quite healthy. Runs marathons annually and is on a softball team.

My brother has one kidney as well. He found out when he was in his 20's. It's very common.

My uncle had kidney failure (I think because he smoked like crazy, but maybe it's not from that) so they were going to remove that one, and then they found out he only has 1! So he had to have a transplant.

2nd OP here - thank you everyone for sharing your stories...it is definately making me feel better. I am really nervous though about him having to undergo surgery (in about 1 yr) to have the kidney removed. I am trying not to think too much about it, but it is just a little worisome for such a small child to have to undergo major surgery.

I had to have one kidney removed while I was still young, for health reasons. It was never an issue but my parents told me about it so I should know about it for medical history questions etc. I am bh doing great healthwise!
