Would you give your baby a name that has the same meaning as you parents name for example- if your mothers name was shaindel would you name you child yaffa? Is it considered the same name? Just deciding on a name but the name we like is the hebrew version of one of my fathers names. TIA

There's a difference if it IS the same name, but in a different language, or if the names only sound the same or mean the same idea.

I really wouldn't give something like Sheindel-Yaffa or Gittel-Tova Shraga-Feivel-Nerya combination, because many people today use one for the other.
I would use names identified with each other but which are independent names, like Hadassa-Esther, Miriam-Efrat, or Shlomo-Yedidya.

Not if it was the same shoresh or if I was trying to name the child for a relative with the same name as the parent.

I don't think I would, unless you're naming after someone or the name is otherwise very important. I know someone named Chaya whose father's name is Chaim.

We asked a shaila about Toiba (pigeon) bas Tzippora (bird) and we were told that even Faiga bas Tzippora would be fine. Ask your LOR

Why would there be a problem with ariella and Aryeh? Just because they start with the same few letters does not give them the same meaning. I never would think there is anything wrong with two names that have similar letters.
OP is asking about same meanings in different languages.

Ariella and Aryeh have the same root meaning.
