Me and dh want to go on vacation for a few days and take our baby along... (8 mths old)
Where can we go (by car) not too far from tri-state area (3-4hr drive tops)?
Somewhere with a nice place to stay-either villa or hotel kinda thing with nice parks, boating, etc.

We've done a lot of summer driving vacations from the NY area. New Hampshire and Vermont are both very scenic. You could go up to the Lake George area in upstate NY or to Newport, Rhode Island. Connecticut and Pennsylvania have quite a lot to do as well.
If you want to base yourselves in a city with minyanim and kosher food, then Boston is a great destination. There is a lot to do in the city, but you can also drive out of the city for more nature-type attractions.
My suggestion would be to find the official tourism website for any state that you might be interested in visiting and request their brochure by mail. Decide what looks interesting and do further research. If you are members of AAA, you can request free tour guides and maps. Just make sure to do so at least a month before your trip because it can take some time to get the info package.

If you want to go soon, then you are better off going south where it will be warmer. How about the Washington DC area? Virginia is supposed to be beautiful.
