I'd like to buy watches for my girls for chanuka - ages 7 & 9 - it'll be a first watch for both of them. for some reason my 9 year old never asked for a watch as she doesn't really tell time..she can "read" the numbers on a digital clock but that's about it.She's a bright kid but for some reason she finds the concept confusing, no matter how many books I bought her trying to teach her to tell time.

the TIMEX watch seems pretty easy to read as its made for young kids, would you buy this watch for a 9 year old - fourth grader? or is it too babyish?

I'd be ok with a first or second grader, not sure about a fourth grader, that being said, my oldest is wearing one of these watches (in a boys' style) that he got when he turned 5, and he still wears it with pride in third grade (yes it lasted that long!) -- but I'm not sure if I would buy the same thing for him at this age...

I think it may be a bit childish, especially the band. But of course, you know your daughter's tastes better than I do.

How about this?

there are different personalities ... what's wrong with a cutesy watch ... a little girly does not need sophistication ...

besides the dials are learning dials ... or didn't anybody notice
