The funny thing about watches and jewelry is that they are not timeless, they also go according to fashions. Think of any yerusha jewelry you might have received, big chunky gold pieces with black stones. There is social pressure, and the chosson and kallah are just trying not to get short-changed, but if some wise person could tell them to take that money and put it into a home instead, the world would be a better place.

When I got engaged 15 yrs. ago, I got my dh a Raymond Weil watch for about $1,000 dollars. You can still buy the same watch today. My dh stills has it. He bought me one also and I love it, I wear it everyday.
