I'm looking for a recommendation, in NY, for a neuro-psychologist or similar professional/group to do a full evaluation on my 6yo. Concerns are that she may have add, however, I would prefer a full eval that can examine neurology, psychology, and behavior, and if possible- educational as well. I'm paying out of pocket and need to be sure that I have a top group/dr the first time around bec with financial constraints, I'm only getting one crack at this. If this kind of full eval needs to be done by different drs I guess thats ok although I think it would be best to have a team or just one with a very broad range of experience.
Please recommend who you used and what you used them for and how you found its accuracy.

OP here. does that mean you found her assessment accurate? how long was the eval? did she meet with you separately?

I second the recommendation for maytal. Right on target and very experienced.

Sorry 'bout that - he's a pediatric neurologist, not an educational psychologist. My bad.. Good luck.

Yes, I found her eval very accurate. It was a few years ago, so I don't remember how long it was. She spoke with me I think before and after.
I am going to lij tomorrow for an eval, not sure what type exactly, but I can tell you about it if you would like.

OP - just reread your initial post. I do have a recommendation for neurodevelopmental specialists who helped my children significantly (they are occupational therapists by training). They were also wonderful in directing what kind of treatments were most appropriate. Feel free to PM me for more info. They are not medical doctors (one does have a PHD in nuerodevelopment.)

They did a full evaluation including neurological and academic. Were really on target.

I did go to a neuro-psychologist before them, but I won't put his name up because I would NOT recommend him. He just did a lot of testing and advised me to "wait and see." Did not appreciate that after spending so much money out of pocket.

I'm reviving this old thread bc I have the same question as original OP and wondering if theres any updated referals and recommendations.

This is for a Neuropsychologist- to do thorough testing. Theres a possible processing issue and or ADD....
Financial constraints so would like to be successful on first try to...
These tests are so expensive and Id also like ideas as to what they recommend and what the follow up is.

One of the families I'm working with highly recommended the one they're using. You can PM me for details. She wasn't cheap but they got reimbursed for all or most through their insurance.
