Great job, lousy pay

I am really unhappy where I work now so I've been looking for another job. I just had an interview and I think they really liked me and would offer me the position if we can agree on a salary.
Here's the problem: the starting pay is $35,000 less than what I'm making now.
I really can't afford such a huge pay cut. A little pay cut, maybe. But this is huge.
There are a lot of benefits, like not traveling. I have to travel 45 min now and sometimes have traffic. I am also not near my kids if there's an emergency during the day. This new job would be a 10 min ride so no traffic and I'll be closer to home. I'll be doing something I enjoy versus now, where my position was changed and I no longer enjoy my job. Not to mention the boss.....
I amoso disappointed.
I really want the job!

If you calculate the amount you were spending on traveling and day care when you were traveling would the difference in salary be within your goal?

Also, what are the possibilities and time frame for advancement? If you tighten your belt and work hard for a year, will the pay be likely to increase?

There's a lot to be said for loving what you do and being close to home.

Maybe the time you save on the commute would enable you to take on a small second job tutoring or something, and make enough that way?

Thank you both.
All mentioned ideas are being discussed and decided on.
First I have to wait for them to call me and see if they are willing to meet me somewhere in the middle.
