Morningstar says OU-D, but is really OU-DE. There is no dairy in it (grandmother checked into it for her vegan son who wont eat it if there was dairy in it). Depending how you hold with DE may be something to look into. call you LOR or OU to confirm. Most of their stuff is really good (imho Smile )

There's a company that sells a really good vegetarian bacon flavoring which is kosher. See http://www.jdfoods.net/.

See this article for some info about them: http://www.thejewishweek.com/n.....plate

If I'm not mistaken, you can have DE stuff after a meat meal, but you are not supposed have it WITH meat.

No comment on whether its actually dairy or not. There are things you may not recognize as dairy but it could be problematic. I would personally call the OU and ask. Not sure if hats what was done.

As an aside, I did call the OU about Oreos a while ago and they said it was DE so fine for a pareve dessert after meat meal, but that I should check back in the future since formulations can change.

There are opinions both ways. We're sefardi and we eat pasta cooked in a clean meat pot, mixed with cheese (obviously not in the same pot). I agree that you definitely need to confirm with the kashrus agency that it is only equipment.

I am supposed to include bacon in the meatball chop meat. Should I fry up the pastrami first and chop into pieces? Or what about Bacos? ( if they are pareve?)
Thanks for the ideas ladies!

I do like the morningstar brand, too bad its dairy!

I haven't had beef fry in years, but used to love it. Is it still widely available? QueenBee, can you please share your meatball recipe?

If you live in brooklyn, pomegranate sells smoked lamb/veal breast that you buy in slices at the deli and you use it like bacon. dunno if it tastes like the real thing but its very fatty and smokey and gets really crispy when you fry it or microwave it.

Depending on the recipe, this might work: http://www.theppk.com/2011/10/eggplant-bacon/

Jack's "Facon" doesn't taste like bacon, nor does it have the texture of bacon.

BT here with many many bacon eating years. The best product on the market to replace bacon (without making it yourself, that is!) is Grow and Behold's cured beef bacon. It has the smokey flavor, the crispy texture, and it's absolutely perfect in everything from beef bourguinon to BLTs to bacon and eggs.

Website is growandbehold.com, delivery times/prices/etc vary depending on where you live. The rest of their stuff is really good, too, but I always keep the beef bacon in the house.
