Say I'm drinking a cup of tea at my desk when I start my day. I don't make a bracha acharona afterwards because it takes me a while to drink the tea plus refills (can take a few hours!). But then in the meantime I eat a salad for snack so I make a Hadama and now what. If I'm going to say a borei nefashos on the salad, then I can't continue sipping my drink without a new shehakol, right?

Similary, if I'm eating a salad and then eat a piece of gum, do I make a borei nefashos on the salad if I'm still eating gum? I can't wait till I finish eating the gum because it's going to be wayyy later.

1) The M Brura says you should wait till a hit drink cools and drink a mole lugma (one cheekful) of it in order to make after brocha on it

2) you should have in mind before you start that the after brocha goes on all foods you will eat that arent mezonos/7 species fruits / wine or grape juice

3) R Belsky holds there is no bore nofoshos on just gum as its not called eating just chewing and theres no shiur

Thanks for answering.

1) Does it help if I drink a cheekful later on in the drink? I like tea hot but have no problem taking a gulp when it's cooler.

Oh yeah, I can totally relate to that. I feel like I make a big brachah in the morning & do my final bentching before I leave.

Ask your Rov if you can rely on the Chasam Sofer who says you can make an after brocha even after a long period of just sipping because that is the derech of how you drink something hot...
