gm and m1, thanks for your replies.
Online discussions indicate it is possible to put a cast iron pan in the self cleaning cycle of the oven.
I hope to confirm that with the manufacturer.

Please let us know how it works out, I've been wanting to invest in cast iron for a while, but it never occurred to me to do libun in the self clean oven.

I ran a cast iron dutch oven through the self clean cycle, and it came out just fine. There was a fine layer of ash in the bottom of the pan and on the lid. I then washed it like normal, and then seasoned it with flaxseed oil.

The manufacturer verified that it's ok to run it in self cleaning oven. Then season it yourself- 3 times b/4 using.
