He eats about 6-8 cherrios for breakfast, and about 6-8 baby spoons of cereal for lunch/supper, sometimes 3-4 baby spoons of baby jar food. All in all, it's probably an ounce or two or three of food all day. He prefers to nurse and only eats if I distract him and then get the food into his mouth. He doesn't grab food unless it's the icing on my cake he once loved!

He nurses every 3 hours or so- should I worry that he's not so into food? My pediatrician isn't worried, since he's gaining nicely due to nursing. I don't mind nursing but it seems that other babies his age eat so much more!

I could have written your post except that my baby drinks formula.
My baby also has some allergies which makes it even harder. I try to push as much as I can but if he refuses, there isn't much I can do about it. I'm hoping that he'll start eating more soon, when he's a bit older.
I think if your baby is gaining nicely then you shouldn't really worry.

I wouldnt worry abt health wise. I would worry abt habit... how long do u plan on nursing until? u want him to be able to eat food before u stop... I would cut back on nursing a bit so he would be hungrier for food. also, with one of my kids, I was going crazy that he wasnt eating food- until I tried giving him real food like chicken a meatballs! and he gobbled it up! he just had enough of the baby food! maybe try that...

Yeah, as long as he's gaining weight and developing nicely, it means he's getting just what he needs. Some kids like food more, some kids like nursing more, some kids like a nice balance. At some point, he'll develop more of an interest in food, but that's very individual.

I have/had this problem too.

Doc recommended 5 smaller meals instead if 3 main meals.

Offer as many varieties as you can.

Doc always told me, DC will not starve himself.

Toddlers only gain about 5 pounds in their second year.
