An amother about to receive her PhD here. I hear this remark way too often! A PhD does not mean anything! It provides for a longer name, but, that is about it. Everyone works hard -people work hard no matter what job/education they have. It does not make the recipient smart either. And, I am not good at what I do because I am smart, but, rather because I have an over-active imagination and come up with some good ideas. I was told growing up that I need to live in a practical and not imaginary world by my family. My school thought I was dumb. My PhD is just a requirement for what I want to do.
