We've been trying to train DS, and he happily sits on the potty, and he talks about going, and he knows when he's about to go, and he knows he's supposed to go in the potty, but he doesn't do it. Our approach until now has been to tell him he's a big boy and big boys use the potty. Very positive and all, but to no avail. Anyway, he just had his upsherin a few days ago, and a relative remarked how good he was, so many upsherin boys cry when they see the scissors and their hair falling away while DS was totally fine. So I mentioned that we really prepared him, and talked about how soon his ponytail was going to go bye bye, and there was going to be a party to say bye bye to the ponytail. Relative then suggested maybe we do that with the diapers- tell him soon the diapers are going bye bye, and there is no option but to use the potty, and we can even make a party to say bye bye diapers- throw them in with biur chametz! I feel like this might work with him- but is that totally crazy? and should we maybe skip throwing the diapers in the fire? Also, do we just let him pee all over himself and hope he gets the idea to go on the potty instead? The big advantage is both me and DH will be around for a whole week to really stay on top of things, something we don't usually get to do since we both work. Thoughts?
