I was talking to a friend from San Diego and I said something about standing on line for something. She said that's not the correct way of saying it, but she's been to NY enough times, so she's used to people saying it like that. This is not a post about what's correct and what's not because I believe her that I say it wrong, it's a post about what do you say.

Definitely "in line." Standing "on line" is bad for your computer, and waiting "on line" means you need a faster Internet connection.

As a non-American, I have no choice but to answer that I do neither: rather, I stand in the queue!

get in line - stand on line ...

if you say look something up 'on the line' then you are too old to be computer savvy which is another line altogether

now I'm from new york - but moved away 1/2 my life ago & I still say it ... vus darshin mir fun dos ?

I chose other, because I use both interchangeably for no particular reason one way or the other.
