Dh just took him to the doctor. He is also very congested. His nose doesn't stop running and he is coughing. We noticed the swollen lymph node behind his ear around a week ago, maybe more. We noticed the one in his neck yesterday. So I'm not sure if the swollen lymph nodes are signs of the body fighting the cold, or if all of it together is a sign of something more serious going on. Does anyone have experience with this?

I would take him to the doctor if I were you, maybe to an ear nose and throat specialist.
It's probably nothing too serious, but it sounds like he has some kind of inflammation and there is no harm in seeing what it is especially as it is probably causing discomfort.
All the best, wish him better!

OP here: dh took him to the doctor. He just called to say that it seems to be nothing to worry about, just drainage from the cold. If they get bigger, we should come back. B"H it seems to be nothing to worry about.

I had this and I was terrified. I was on antibiotics for it, it shrunk a lot but even 6 months later I can still feel it. BH it's nothing major, I'm glad your kid is OK.

I once found a lump on my neck (and I also had a cold then) I looked up online and got freaked out
I went to my dr and the exact words he laughingly told me were: "oh, the interent.. its not lymphoma, you dont have a week to live"
BH it was nothing, usually if you have a cold or are after birth and such it can happen, but always get it checked of course.

Often it's just from the cold, as your doctor said. But if it doesn't go away within a week or two, or it becomes worse, often the swollen lymph nodes are an indicator that the cold has turned sinus infection (which is often treated with antibiotics and is easily treatable). So even if it doesn't improve, don't worry, just take your child back to the doctor to see if antibiotics are needed.

I would also take your son completely off of dairy to lessen the congestion and perhaps put him on an allergy medicine like Benedril (OTC- over the counter) or whatever the Israeli equivalent is. Hot steamy showers and hot tea help too. Just my 2 cents from experience. Refuah shleimah!
