you're not clear
the law ?
the halacha ? since when do you need separate milky & meaty gas lines ?
who cares how many gas lines you have so long as they were installed safely & function properly
you can even have one for the dryer & the furnace & the water heater

I cannot imagine it's against the law ... of course you could look that up
but you should never do renovations without explicit permission from your landlord ... perhaps that is where illegal comes into play

you probably need a permit from the building department ... most cities would require this for major renovations - especially gas lines

I don't live in New York, but if you installed a second gas line without permit, it's almost certainly against the law. Gas is highly flammable and in addition to creating a possible risk to yourself and your family, you are invalidating the owner's insurance.

Most likely, he gave you permission to do so assuming that you intended to comply with all applicable laws and regulations. You didn't.
For NYC, e.g., see http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/do.....s.pdf
You could not possibly have used a licensed contractor to do the work without a proper permit. Do you know that the work was done properly. Think about what happened to those buildings in Harlem a few weeks back.

who did the work for you ? is it already installed ?
he can't renege, or shouldn't ...
but you do have to get a licensed repairman - who will get the permit if you didn't get the permit ... it may even be cheaper for him to pick up the permit or they may prefer the contractor to get the permit so they can see if he's licensed

thanks
that link helps me
no greenfire, he actually just changed his mind - he admitted it - oh well (he wasnt even here to see if anything was done wrong, he doesnt' even live here - he lives out of state and just comes in once a month for rent or some other things at an office here)
I will find out about the permit
so only my landlord would be able to get hte permit or can I/the contractor? b/c he doesnt live here its soooo annooying to get things!
