What if you're not sure if you lit right before or right after shkiah due to a mistake, do you need to light an extra candle in future?

nopes - I discussed this once with a rav & since there are varying times that are off by 2 minutes - it's not the same issue you would have if you couldn't or forgot to bentch licht at all ...
