so in 2000 I was in sternberg and part of the campus choir. we sang a song that was really pretty, but I dont know where they got it and ive never heard it anywhere since and I dont know the last verse anymore and im not 100% sure of all the words I do remember, but for some reason ive been singing it all week. anyone have any info on it?

heres what I do know:

a man he stands so proudly
his heart is filled with awe
his bride comes towards him slowly
approaching from afar
boruch haba their singing
and each one feels the same
as to seven special brachos
their hearts cry out amein

a hush goes thru the people
no sound or call is heard
a whimper breaks the silence
a voice without a word
above the cries we hear it
these words make him a jew
lhachniso biriso shel avrohom aveinu

chorus:
chaim shel brocha
for the wonders and the joys
for the first hatov vhmaytiv
on the tiny baby boy
so I say shehechiunu
for im right where I belong
bmakeylim avarech hashem
A blessing in song

(the next verse goes thru diff wonders and the brachos- I remeber something about rainbows and first fruit)

thanks if anyone can help Smile

I don't know if this is where it originated, but I can trace this back to 1999 in Los Angeles. Very Happy

BYLA's Halleli theme was "Barchi Nafshi Es Hashem", I.e. brachos, that year.

For the first tree in the springtime
Shelo chasar be'olamo
For the fresh juice from this apple
Shehakol nihiye bidvaro

Now here's where I get totally mixed up. Something about the rain and storm and thunder and a king and all his legions. Pleeease post when you get the rest of the lyrics because it'll drive me crazy!

firstly the last line that OP wrote is supposed to be A blessing in song.

For the rain and storm and thunder
shelo chisar b'olamo
and the rainbow that reminds us
zocher habris v'ne'eman

I believe the lyrics were written by someone Stefansky?

I think it's:

For the rain and storm and thunder
gevuraso malei olam
and the rainbow that reminds us
zocher habris v'ne'eman

Memories! Thanks busydev for starting this thread! For years I only remembered the second half of the song, not the first part so now I have the whole thing Smile

The song- lyrics and music- were composed by the wonderful and talented Mrs Shani Stefansky, who taught at that time in Prospect Park Bnos Leah High School.

For the first tree in the springtime
Shelo chasar be'olamo
For the fresh juice from this apple
Shehakol nihiye bidvaro
For the rain and storm and thunder
Gevuraso maleh olam
For the rainbow that reminds us
Zocher habris v'ne'eman

------------------------
------------------------
A king and all his legions
Shenasan bichvodo
A child softly sleeping
Hamapil chevlei shaina
His father gently swaying
La'asok bidivrei sorah

amazing!!! thanks so much!
if anyone can fill in those last two lines I would be thrilled!

its funny, when I first started singing this song last week, I could only remember the bris verse and the chorus in whole. I knew it started a man he stands so proudly but couldnt remember the exact words and a few days ago they jumped back into my head, but the brachos verse I knew would be harder for me to remember.

does anyone know the official title of the song? I would change the thread title so its the right thing.
again thank you thank you thank you!!!

and I learned the rest of the stanza differently:

a new dress for yomtov
a king and all his legions
shenasan michvodo

a kohen spreads his tallis
yivarechicha Hashem
please look down on Your people
and bless us once again

Oh my gosh - blast from the past! And it only took me 1/2 minute to find the tape - that's even more amazing - I actually knew where the cassette was!

I can place that song as early as 1994. I was in 10th grade in Prospect Park. They used that song as the theme song for Raninu which that year was called "A Blessing in Song" and Dance (got that off of the cassette label.)
