In Montreal, Canada, there are several yeshivish families who make an early Shabbos and a couple of shuls have early minyonim.

How does it work with the white nights? When does shabbos begin/end?

I was in S. Petersburg, not for Shabbos, but during white nights. It didn't get dark till after 1:00 am, but it did get dark. (Midnight cruises down the river during white nights are something else! It looked just like mid-afternoon.)

In places with white nights one goes according to the time of the nearest town where it does get dark.

Do people stay up motzash or go to bed and make havdalah in the morning?

In places like st petersburg even early shabbos is probably really late, since you can't bring in shbbos till after plag hamincha.
Reading this thread, our "early" shabbos is late for israelis.

Chabad here in antwerp, has an early minjan. Most shuls here have two minjanim on friday night, the early one and the regular one. So whoever wants to bring in shabbes early goes to the early minjan of their shul.

My parents never made an early shabbos but I want to start. My question is, how do you know when the earlier zeman is? Is it arbitrary- you light whenever you want? Is there a certain time and if so, how do you know the time to light candles? Can you start shabbos as early as you like? I vaguely recall learning in HS about plag hamincha but not sure if that was regarding early shabbos.
Thanks for your help!

hi there studyingtorah. the time to make in early shabbos varies from community to community.
everyone who does early shabbos agrees that plag haminchah is the earliest time to do so, the question is which opinion of plag haminchah do you go by , there are two opinions . Right now for example on the east coast, the two times for plag are approximately 7pm and 7.55pm obviusly give or take ten minutes or so depending on whereabouts you are.

I'm in Lakewood- no idea which time we hold by bec dh family never made early shabbos either. In fact my Fil was always very against it; the shul dh generally goes to also doesn't have an early zeman. How would we figure it out?
Also if I miss the exact time, then can we do 7:10 or 7:30 or can I light only that specific time?
