DH said an interesting vort that he heard from a baalebos (meaning, not a kollel guy!)
Why did all the tribes put their staff together with that of Aharon to see which one would blossom? Because there's going to come a time when theh tribe of Zevulun is doing great with his sea-faring ships, and the tribe of Reuven is making it big in gems, etc, and they're all going to say, "Shevet Levi, what do you do for us? You're just a parasite!"
And Shevet Levi is going to turn around and say - "you all submitted your staffs - you all wanted a chance to be Shevet Levi!"
(Although I personally think there are a lot of things that could be fixed in Chareidi society, beginning with kids knowing that although "Toirah iz di besteh Sechoira", we will still love you and support you if you decide your interests and talents are best focused elsewhere - and we even sat our son down and told him this. However, we live in the U.S. musing about why we don't make aliyah...)
