Does anyone know what the deal is with having a wedding on the night of a minor fast day? Not the night after, but the night before we start fasting but when the halachik date has already arrived. I've been informed of a family wedding on leil asarah b'teves (aka New Years Eve this year) and I never thought about this before, but it seems odd.

There was just a shaylah about this in one of the dapei parashat hashavua that I saw yesterday. Seems that while there are a lot of halochic authorities who are not happy with this custom, R. Moshe Feinstein has written that there is a lot of room to be meikil and therefore one can do it (the question was getting married the night before 17 Tamuz).

I believe it's a machlokes, but definitely some poskim permit. FWIW, I got married on 13 Tammuz, and I had a sb the night of the 17th- and of course a break fast sb the next evening

due to shkia being so late the actual wedding is prob before shkia right? I wouldnt think its a problem re: the fast as much as thats its now part of the 3 weeks...? but then if people get married rosh chodesh sivan before shkia changes the day to bes sivan, (sefira by their count) you can still have music and what not to celebrate...

I've had several weddings the night going into 17 tamuz. The part that can be odd is chosson/kallah fasting the day after their wedding
