What is the difference between saying Chas V'Shalom, Chas V'Chalila, and Rachmana Litzlan
in conversation?
Thank you.

Thank you. |
IME, Chas v'Shalom and Chas v'Chalila are used pretty interchangeably, with Chas v'Chalila maybe a bit stronger -- used when discussing more serious issues. Both are used when talking about something bad that might happen in the future. Rachmana Litzlan is used more when talking about something that happened already. So one would say "be careful, someone could slip on that wet floor chas v'shalom" or "make sure you know what the instructions are in case a rocket lands in our area chas v'chalila". On the other hand you would say "we're organizing rides to the hospital for that neighbor who was just diagnosed with a serious illnesss, rachmana litzlan".
But this is just what I hear people say -- no real source.
