So I do not live in NY, but we are going to NY for my Aunt's chasuna.

She is my only other frum relative.

We want to do sheva brachas, there was a thought of doing it at my sister-in-law's house but she is out of town. So I thought to maybe do it at a restaurant?? Do people do that in NY?

If so where would you suggest?

Sure, people do that all the time. Where in NY would be most convenient?

Mazel tov!

Either Monsey (for us as we are staying there) or Crown Heights (For Aunt and Chasson as that's where they are living)

Ah, can't really help with those locations. Hopefully someone else can.

Start to think about how many people you will invite (including who the panim chadashim will be). Who will be paying for the S"B and how much can you/they afford to spend per person? Do you want a formal sit-down affair with speeches or a more casual, laid-back approach?

YUUUUUMMMMM.....purple pear. It's good I don't live near Monsey or I'd be three sizes bigger.
But they are fairly upscale, so it may not be what you're looking for. Maybe try to get the name of a caterer in Monsey and a small shul hall? You need to decide what you can spend pp and how many ppl and then just call restaurants and caterers and see what you can find.

I did a caterer in a shul.... it did not work out cheaper at the end of the day cuz I had to order in everything separately... it's more the assumption that it's cheaper. You have to inquire round first and see the difference. Sometimes for an extra $200 you can have the burden taken off your back so it's worth it.

Definitely call around to get different prices for different venues.

If you want laid-back, then you might want to consider doing something more fun like a picnic or BBQ. My parents went to sheva brachos last year somewhere in Manhattan where the guests did a workshop on making chocolate. They had the best time! I know Monsey has some pottery/painting places. That might be fun as well. My favorite S"B were the ones I didn't have to get all dressed up for.

You're kidding.

The food's not bad, but the place used to be a Burger King (and, in fact, it still says Burger King on the door handles), and looks like it.

Anon to protect location.

I think Basil is in Crown Heights. I have no idea if they do parties or if they are in your price range though.

For sure.
Pricewise, you get the best value at China Glatt but they book out fast so call if your interested.

I kept a list of the best priced options in BP when we made Sheva Brachos. Let me know if you need the rest of the places that we were considering.

First of all definitely do it at a restaurant. It will save you lots of hassle since everything is included.
Second of all, CH, is not that far from Flatbush or BP.
All the nice milchig restaurants do Sheva brochos. Call around to get the best price. I especially like Chocochino, Cafe K and Cafe Venezia. I think cafe Venezia has a private upstairs room.
If you are looking for Fleishig, I heard that El Gaucho has a Sheva Brochos special, but I never ate there.
I would do milchigs since most people eat from most mil jig chalav yisrael restaurants.

We made a very nice sheva brachos here:

Avenue R Cafe
97 Route 59, Monsey, NY 10952-3739
845-352-0741

The owner was very accomodating & tried his best to please us.

How many people will you be having?

For fleshiks try mendys in crown heights, they have a room for Sheva Brochos.

Aishel in crown heights has a space and caters Sheva Brochos.

Basil is milchik and nice- upscale

Flatbush is not that far and if your guests are ok driving then you have more options there.
