I remember reading this story long ago, and I really want to get a hold of it. It's about someone who goes to work for some eccentric person, who gives him new words for everything; fire, water, pants etc. Then there's a fire in the place and he has to wake up his boss using these words. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Thanks - that's the one! It's been driving me crazy!
Here's another one you might be able to help me with:
a kid whose father dies, and "the judge" (really intimidating person) tells him his father owed him money. He works really hard to repay the debt, becomes very successful and then the judge dies, and leaves him a note with a confession that he saw he had something in him, so he invented the debt.
