I am trying this for Pesach - I used potato starch instead of flour and put the onions in the food processor. It looked really "soupy" when I poured it in the pan. What did I do wrong??

I find that the recipe calling for 5 onions is very misleading. the 5 onions I used are the huge (spanish) onions. if you used any less than that, you'll be left with a lot of batter and not enough onions

I just made this and divided it into 2 pans. Is the texture suppose to be very soft or a little crunchy? Mine seems crunchy.

I would like to try this for pesach also. Has anyone made this successfully with pot starch or almond flour. I could use some guidance adapting it

Thanks str82thepoint! I made this on friday and subbed potato flour instead of flour and tasted yummmm Very Happy

Has anyone sauteed the onions for this kugel?

Is the taste of this kugel improved if you saute the onions?

That type of filling works better in a pastry wrapped "kugel".
Just use really high quality onions like jumbo sweet Vidalias (adjust amounts if they are very large).
Use just 1/2 tbsp salt. Pack / pat down the onion batter once it's in the the pan. Bake for much longer - until brown, about 1 hour and 10 min.
